Starting a new business can be an emotionally exhausting task. There is a lot of time and money that needs to be invested in the beginning and it may seem like you are getting very little return on your investment. It is extremely important not to loose your motivation and to find a way to push through the bad times or you may throw in the towel before you have the chance to grow your business into something great. Here are 5 ways you can stay motivated when starting a new business.
Patience is a Virtue
It can take a lot of time and hard work to get a business off the ground so it is important to try and exercise some patience. Some businesses will operate for a couple of years or even longer before starting to make a profit. Without Patience you may give up on a viable business without giving it a real chance. As tough as it can be in the beginning try not to give up on your business or yourself too easily.
“Patience is not the ability to wait but how you act when you’re waiting.” Joyce Meyer.
Celebrate the Small Stuff
In business it is important to set goals and try to reach them but even if you are not able to hit every goal every single time remember that the small victories are also important. Maybe you didn’t get as many sales as your were hoping for this week but you still got more than last week. Or maybe you didn’t get any sales at all but your business is starting to gain a bit more exposure. The important thing to focus on is that your business is moving in the right direction
“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” Confucius.
While you are going through this process you will probably have thoughts of self doubt running through your head. You may even have to deal with unsupportive friends or family members who don’t understand why you are investing so much time and money on a business that doesn’t seem to be working in their eyes. It is important to keep those negative thoughts (and negative people) out of your head as much as possible.
Remember Your “Why”
Every entrepreneur has a “why” story that outlines the reasons why they started their business in the first place. Remembering why you entered this venture in the first place will surely keep you motivated and help you to focus on what your are trying to achieve.
Networking can be an effective way to promote your business but you can also connect with other entrepreneurs as a source of support. There are plenty of groups on social media where business owners get together to support each other. They share tips and advice, they give each other encouragement, and even vent about problems they may experiencing in their business. You will be able to meet other people who are in the same boat you are in and dealing with the same struggles you have. You will also meet some successful people who used to have the same struggles as you but were able to overcome them. This kind of support is essential especially for solopreneurs.
Being able to stay motivated about your new businesses is imperative because it is that enthusiasm that will help you to keep going even when things seem impossible. Although it can be difficult in the beginning, once your business takes off it will be worth all of the blood sweat and tears you had to shed to get there.
“We know what we are but we know not what we may be.” William Shakespeare.
